Who has the best bagels around?
In the name of journalism, I went around to five different bagel joints and ate way too many bagels.
Check out my article Battle of the Bagels on Patch. The comments are flowing.

Get out the moving trucks: This blog is relocating!
As you can probably tell, this blog is pretty much defunct for the time being. It makes me very sad, but it was hard to transition from the "opening a store" storyline to something else AND run the store at the same time (which is doing wonderfully well, by the by!).
But don't despair! You can still get your dose of Kitchen a la Mode and crazy ol' me.
I just started a weekly local food column at the new site South Orange Patch which should be a fun time. This week's column, my first, was just posted here. I had a ball playing with some fruits I found at Eden Gourmet that I had never used before. The column will be posted every Thursday.
As I grow more into blogging and food writing, I may very well resurrect this guy, but for now, I'm excited to devote my energy to the Patch column.

Free nibblies tonight
We decided to celebrate the end of the week and make Fridays special. I've unleashed The Magnificent Kyle... Using some Kitchen a la Mode tools and serving pieces he's put together this week's special treat: A Little Taste of Summer... a la Mode Style.
Homemade Herbal Infused Juices:
Roasted Apple/Carrot Ginger Juice
Cilantro Citrusade
Virgin Passion Mojito
Served with a fresh olive & caper tapenade
After the event, I'll be posting Kyle's recipes.
We'll be celebrating Fridays from 6 to 8 pm. We hope you'll join us! (Otherwise, Kyle will be very sad. And we don't want that!)

Juice it!
A little public service announcement...
For anyone that's stopped by, you know that we've been demoing our fantastic commercial stand juicer. It took me a while to find one that was solid (it's stainless steel), easy to use and easy to clean that would retail for less than a hundred dollars. Well, I finally found it from a vendor that typically sells to restaurant supply stores. This machine is fantastic. Not to mention, gorgeous.
Eden Gourmet sent over a case of oranges for us to try it out with. Boy, are they UGLY, but darned if this isn't the most delicious orange juice I've had in my life (the machine strains out a good amount of the pulp, making it quite palatable. Just ask any parents who've stopped in with their kids; most of them with drink it and then gum the cup, they dig it so much). If you want to try the juice, you better stop by soon, because we're down to our last bag of oranges!
More soon, including pictures! You just have to harass Kyle, our in-house photographer. Speaking of harassing Kyle, if you stop by and see him, tell him that he needs to give me that little write up about himself so that I can formally introduce him on the blog. He even said he'd be willing to start posting about some of his culinary adventures (and trust me, you're going to want to hear about these).

Hours
What a fantastic day we had yesterday! There were people in the store all day and we stayed open late since there was still a bit of a crowd; not bad for a Tuesday!
Sometimes, when you're opening a store, you just don't have as much time as you'd like to actually post a lot in your blog about opening a store... I'm aiming to start posting at a faster clip once Kitchen a la Mode is on its feet a bit. After all, I haven't even posted unveiling pictures yet! Or introduced you to the Fantastic Kyle, the best employee a shop owner could find. And I want to get back into culinary education and cooking related things.
We'll get to all sorts of stuff and more but first, I realized it'd be prudent to post our soft open hours!
Tuesday through Friday: 10 am to 8 pm
Saturday: 10 am to 7 pm
Sunday: 11 am to 5 pm
I hope to see you soon. Please be sure to introduce yourself.

We're open!
Real quick, because it's a mad house in here (yay!), but WE'RE OPEN. We just opened our doors for the soft open this morning and have been having just the most tremendous day! I couldn't be happier.
We still have some work left (the facade and sign will be happening soon and our counter top got delayed in manufacturing) and we're still expecting a few shipments of inventory, but we're ever further along than we possibly could have hoped for.
If you're around, we're celebrating tonight with wine and cheese from 6 to 8 pm and would love it if you can stop by.

Tuesday night, I was working late in the store when two lovely ladies saw the door cracked open and popped in for a peek after dinner in town. They said they couldn't help checking it out, they were just so excited to learn that night about the store (indeed, I actually heard them squeal when they read the sign in the window, but I didn't mention that). They completely fell in love with the store, even in its current disastrous appearance.
It was infectious. It's sometime hard to take step back and see it all from a distance. Its the small things in life, huh? This ten minute chance encounter totally reminded me why I'm doing this. I can't wait for the store to open in five days; I'm hoping to see these lovely ladies again and thank them for putting a little pep in my step, right when I can see the finish line ahead of me... yeah, right beyond those seventeen extraordinarily steep hills.
